【摘要】:Specificgravity,apparent,maybeusedasaqualitativetestinestablishingtheidentityofachemical.Itmaybeusedtocalculatethevolumeoccupiedbyaproductwhoseweightisknown,ortocalculatetheweightofaproductfromitsvolume.Itmaybeusedtodeterminethecompositionofbinarymixturesofpurechemicals.Inthecaseofmostrefinedindustrialchemicalsspecificgravity,apparent,isofminimalvalueindefiningquality,althoughitmaydetectgrosscontamination.Ofthetwotestmethodsdescribed,thepycnometermethod(TestMethodB,1.1.2)isthemostaccurateandprecise.Forthisreasonitisthepreferredmethodincaseofdisputes.Thehydrometermethod(TestMethodA,1.1.1)istheleastaccurateandprecise,butitisalsothesimplestandfastesttoperformandisoftenentirelysatisfactoryformanypurposes.Ifthesampleistooviscoustopermitthehydrometertofloatfreely,thepycnometertestmethodshouldbeused.1.1Thesetestmethodscoverthedeterminationofthespecificgravity,apparent,ofliquidindustrialchemicals.Twotestmethodsarecoveredasfollows:1.1.1TestMethodA,specificgravity,apparent,bymeansofahydrometer.1.1.2TestMethodB,specificgravity,apparent,bymeansofapycnometer.Note18212;TestMethodD4052describesaninstrumentalprocedure.1.2Incommonusagethetermspecificgravity,apparent,isunderstoodtomeanspecificgravity.SincethistestmethodistobeinconformitywithTerminologyE12,alltermsreadingspecificgravitywerechangedtospecificgravity,apparent,withoutalteringthemeaningofspecificgravityand,thetermapparentcouldbedroppedineverydayoperationsafterestablishingtheusetermequivalency.1.3ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasstandard.NootherunitsofmeasurementareincludedinthesetestmethodswiththeexceptionofFahrenheit(x00B0;F)in5.1asanexampleofapossibleindustrialspecificationunit.1.4Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.1.5ReviewthecurrentMaterialsSafetyDataSheets(MSDS)fordetailedinformationconcerningtoxicity,firstaidprocedures,handling,andsafetyprecautions.
